The Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures mainly focuses on training all kinds of qualified personnel in foreign languages and now consists of one undergraduate program the English language and literature. Since its establishment, the discipline has been well-developed. Among 60 teachers now, 12 are professors and associate professors, 30 lectures and 3 foreign teachers. The Department of Foreign Language and Literature of XUST has set up relations with Graduate College of Xi'an Foreign Language University for on-the -job teacher training to raise all teachers' academic credentials to graduate education level within 3 years.

There are 2 multimedia classrooms, 12 Audio-visual Laboratories, and 2 recording rooms in t he Department of Foreign Language and Literature. This department is devoted to the training of qualified personnel who has fluency in foreign language skills, and abundant cultural knowledge. The graduates of the department are widely accepted in society on graduation, who will be engaged in the work of translating, research, management, mainly in the fields of foreign affairs, economy and trade, culture, journalism, education, scientific research, tourism and management, etc.
